Hotels High on Homeland Security in Top US Markets

September 13, 2004 -- The Freeman Group recently sent a dozen of its mystery shoppers, without the knowledge of the hotel staffs and management, into ten popular hotels and resorts in ten top markets in the region including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Freeman tested for 12 internationally-recognized security standards such as visible staff presence at the hotels' points of entry, locked connecting doors to adjacent guest rooms, and photo ID required by the front desk staff when issuing replacement room keys to guests.

Bill Freeman, founder and chairman of the Freeman Group, stated, "I'm happy to announce that of the 100 properties we tested, all scored 90% or above in their security procedures. This is a noticeable improvement over evaluations we conducted three years ago when scores were below 80% in more than half the markets. Since 9/11, the hospitality industry has clearly gotten the message."
During the evaluations, the Freeman shoppers stayed one or more nights at each property (a partial list of which can be made available upon request) checking for security measures including controlled access to guest areas, well-lighted parking facilities, and working balcony door locks. "All properties did very well this go round," Freeman said. "While security is not a perfect science, guests staying in the North American territories can sleep easier knowing their hoteliers' strong commitment to safety."

The Freeman Group is the largest staff training and measurement/mystery shopping organization in the world, serving hotel, resort, restaurant, casino, and airline companies in forty US states and twenty-two foreign countries.
